MORE INCONSISTENCY!
ON BEHALF OF HOROWHENUA RUGBY UNION.
WERAROA-SHANNON JUNIOR MATCH TO BE REPLAYED.
At Tuesday night’s meeting of the Horowhenua Rugby Union it was decided that the Junior match Weraroa v. Shannon, which was won by default by Shannon on Saturday owing to Weraroa not putting in an appearance was to be re-play-ed ! This was a match in the first round of the Knock-out Competition, T and yet an application by the Foxton Club to a previous meeting to have a Third Grade match, Foxton v. Weraroa, re-played, which Foxton had to lose by default owing to the fact that the team was told that there would be no game on that date, was not granted. And this when Foxton Thirds stood a good chance of winning the competition!
Weraroa’s excuse for not travelling on Saturday was that they were told that “there was no hope of Shannon getting a team together to meet them,” and that “there was no sign of the Shannon team.” Foxton’s excuse for not playing was that they were told all in good faith by their delegate to the Union that there would be no games on the date in question, owing to a rep. fixture in Palmerston N., and that delegate explained that to the Union meeting, but the excuse wasn’t good enough. The Thirds were particularly keen about playing the match, and were vefiy disappointed when they discovered what had happened.
Why this inconsistency on the part of the Horowhenua Union?
