BOY SCOUTS

COMMISSIONER SANGLE VISITS TROOP. The local Boy Scouts received a visit from Major San'dle, districtSeout Commissioner, last night. The Commissioner was accompanied by Scoutmasters Rev. G. T. Brown and Carpenter of Palmerston North. The inspection took place in All Saints’ schoolroom and amongthose present were the Girl Guides and their leaders, members of the guides committee (Messrs F. Mason, W. 11. Nicholas, D. Christie and J. K. Ilornblow) and parents. The scouts were in charge of scoutmaster Warwick. After the Commissioner had inspected the scouts, he presented the scoutmaster’s warrant to Air. Warwick. In doing so, he referred to the fine appearance of the scouts and the progress they had made since the inception. He referred to the objects, of the scout movement in building character and making them useful members of society. He paid a tribute to the enthusiasm of the leaders and members and gave some useful hints for the future. Mr. Warwick, in accepting the charter, reviewed the work of the movement from the Commencement and said the boys were as keen now as at the beginning. He asked that some arrangement be made for examiners to enable some of the boys to complete their examinations.

The Commissioner said he would endeavour to have this request given effect to.

Scoutmaster Brown, and the chairman (Rev. Walton) and Mr. Ilornblow also addressed the scouts and vocal items were given by Messrs Barron and Taylor. iScoutmastcr Carpenter said on visiting a troop he always made a point of giving a prize to the best dressed scout. The decsion proved a. difficult task on this occasion but ATassey Rotter received the award amidst the applause and congratulations of his comrades.

Supper was dispensed by the Girl Guides and a very enjoyable time was brought to a close with the singing of the National Anthem.
