SCHOOL SPORT.
VISIT FROM SHANNON BASKET BALL TEAM.
Efforts to provide inter-school contests in the sports field are not confined in the local school to the boys only. Yesterday afternon two teams of girls from iSJianuon School visited Foxton and met two teams from the local school at basket ball. All four teams were in very good form and in skill and attack showed a great improvement on former years. ' > The A match was in favour of the Foxton side until the last three minutes when Shannon scored two goals, resulting in the game ending in a draw—B all. During the game outstanding play was shown by M. Barron in the centre, I. McEwen and M. Downes as defenders and Or. Reader as goalthrower. During the B. match the play was as keen as in the| former game, but the local team showed better combination and possessed better j?oalthrowers. The whistle blew with the' score 22 —7. Very good play was shown by 11. Owen as jumping centre, M. MeKnight, as defender, and S. Williams as goal-thrower. Mrs I. Stanley and Miss Denton officiated as referees. After the games' a very refreshing afternoon tea was served by members of the C. and D. teams in charge of M. Mason, when the girls made the best use of the time in improving the friendly relations between the teams. On behalf of the girls and the teachers. Mr. Mason expressed his appreciation of the friendly spirit prevailing between the two schools, and assured the girls that a, return match would be arranged for at an early date.
