FOXTON RACING CLUB.
The Annual meeting of the Foxton Racing Club will be held in the Town Hall Supper room on the evening of Monday, August Bth. ANNUAL REPORT. The following is the report to be submitted: — “In common with all other Racing Clubs, we have suffered from general depression which, resulted, in a heavy falling off in totalisator revenue. Nevertheless, your Committee completed all improvements in hand at the beginning of the year and had the new six furlong start, the remodelled Stewards’ Stand, and new Bird Cage enclosure ready for our last annual meeting. These improvements were highly commended by the public and Press throughout our district. “Unfortunately, your Committee •met with a reverse in finding many stumps which had to be removed from the racing track prior to the meeting. This difficulty has been dealt with at heavy cost, but the Club is now in a position to face the future with confidence and by the continued exercise of careful management, expects to increase its assets. “The dates for the 1938 Meeting have been applied for and the Club has been allotted Saturday and Monday, the 21st and 23rd January. “the Pahiatua Club’ applied for the 18th and 19th January for their Meeting; this application was strenuously opposed by your Committee, and, I am pleased to say that their representations to the Dates Committee have resulted in the Pahiatua dates being altered to February Ist and 2nd. ' i “It gives me much pleasure to record the thanks of your Committee to Mrs. Austin, our only lady member, for her generosity in presenting a very handsome cup for competition at the last meeting. “The course and buildings have been kept in excellent repair by the caretaker, Mr. Simpson, and trainers have every reason to be satisfied with the attention! to the training tracks. It/ is a matter for universal congratulation that horses trained on the Foxton course have done so remarkably well this season. “I have reluctantly decided that 1 could not accept nomination as your President for the ensuing year. Nominations have been received for the following positions: —President: Air. W. E. Barber; vice-presidents: Messrs R. Bryant, 11. Coley, W. T. Jewell, C. E. Robinfeon. As there are no further nominations in regard to these officials, an election will not be necessary. According to the rules of the Club, the following Stewards retired this year: Messrs S. Austin, S. Jackson, and C. Pearson. “Mr. \V. T. Jewell being elected a Vice-President, a further vacancy will occur now in.the Stewards and as four nominations have been received, it is for the meeting to say whether an election is necessary. “It is with deep regret that I have to record the death of Mr. Geo. Cojey, who for many years was a prominent member of the Club.”
