WEDDING

CURRIE—MURRAY

A very pretty wedding was celebrated recently at the residence of Mrs. .T. Hannah, Mataroa, when Miss Annie Murray, formerly of Renton, Dumbartonshire, Scotland, was married to William Currie of Foxton, a son of Mrs. Hannah, of Mataroa. The Rev. E. Bandy, of Taihape, officiated. The bride, who was given away by Mr. J. Hannah, was charmingly attired in a pretty

blue dress with hat to tone. She carried a bouquet of violets and fern. Miss Iris Bennett, of Mataroa, was bridesmaid and the duties of best man were carried out by Mr. J. Hurst, of Mataroa.

The bridegroom’s present to the , bridesmaid was a beautiful gold brooch, set with a handsome stone. After the church ceremony the wedding breakfast was held, and the usual toasts were honoured. The happy couple later left for Wellington where the honeymoon was spent. The wedding presents, which were numerous, included a handsome three-tier wedding cake, the gift of Mr. and Mrs. J. Walls, of Foxton. SOCIAL AND PRESENTATION. On a recent evening 1 a number of friends paid a surprise visit to the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Hannah for the purpose of making a presentation to the married couple. The evening was spent with musical items, songs and recitations. Mr. Hurst, in explaining the object of the gathering called upon Mr. Travers to make the presentation. Mr. Travers said that, although Mr. and Mrs. 'Currie were strangers to a large number present, it could not be said that Mataroa people were unequal to such an occasion as this, and the object of those present was to send the newly married couple away with a good impression of the place. In asking Mr. and Mrs. Currie to accept a beautiful silver cake dish, Mr. Travers said he hoped it would serve to remind them of their time spent, and friends made in.Mataroa, and on. behalf of all those present wished them long life, good health and happiness. ■ The health • of the bride and bridegroom was then drunk, with musical honours. Mr. Currie suitably responded. Songs were contributed by Messrs J. Hurst, C. E. Travers, and E. S. MeSweeney, and a recitation by Mr. C. Gallagher. ■ Humorous stories and sketches were also well received during the evening, and a very dainty supper was provided by the ladies. Among those present were Mr. and Mrs. J. Hannah, Mr and Mrs. M. Bennett, Mr. and Mrs. J. Hurst, Mrs. G. Wilson (Himterville), Mr. and Mrs. If. Bosher (Pukekauwa), Miss Avis 'Bennett, Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Scott, Miss A. Cross, Mr. C. Gallagher, Mr. E. Hurst, Mr. C. E. Travers, Mr. E. E. MeSweeney. Near the close of the evening Mr. Hannah thanked all present for coming along and making the evening a success.

Last Thursday evening members of the local P. and T. staff met at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Currie, when Mr. J. Newton (Postmaster), presented, Mr. Currie with suitable tokens as a mark of the esteem in which he is held locally by his fellow employees. In doing so. he wished both Mr. and Mrs. Currie every happiness for the future., Mr. Currie suitably replied, after which those present were entertained to refreshments by Mrs. Currie.

In conjunction with theiv many friends we endorse the good wishes .as expressed above and wish Mr. and Mrs. Currie health and happiness for the future.
