BLAZE AT PALMERSTON NORTH.

The Palmerston Fire Brigade were called to Boundary Road East early yesterday morning:, where an outbreak of fire had developed in a house occupied by Mr Miller. There are no water mains in the locality, and an attempt to link up with the main in the'adjacent street failed until further hose was secured from the fire station.

In the meantime the adjoining house owned by Mr Hgstelow caught alight and was badly gutted before the flames were extinguished. The first house was practically destroyed. An effort to pump water from a well on arrival failed owing to the fire engine breaking through the crust of (day and becoming hogged, the fire men having a strenuous task to extricate the engine after the flames had been subdued.
