CANDIDATES TIE TWICE. FINAL DECISION BY LOT. NEW PLYMOUTH, July 21. A curious position arose at the meeting of the Taranaki Hospital Board. When the chairman, Air AI. Fraser, was garnted leave of absence to go abroad and the question of appointing an was before the board, two members were proposed, Messrs S. Vickers and A. Corkill. On a ballot being taken a tie resulted, and it was decided that Mr Vickers should act as chairman for the first two months of the chairman’s absence and Mr Corkill for the following two. Mr Vickers’ term expired to-day, but in accordance with notice Mr H. B. Lepper moved that the previous resolution be rescinded and that one ‘acting-chairman should be appointed for the whole period. After considerable discussion the motion was carried and the same two candidates were proposed. Once again a tie resulted and, in accordance with the provisions of the Act, lots were drawn.
