AIR AMERY’S PLANS
LONDON, July 4. The tour of the Empire, to be undertaken by the Secretary for the Dominions, Mr Amcry, will be considerably more than a semi-holiday visit to the Dominions.
It will be the first time any Secretary of State has visited all four Dominions, and is confidently expected to result in most important Empire developments. Mr Amery will leave England on July 22. His itineraries mostly have been arranged by the authorities in the Dominions, and he has received a vast number of invitations, but as far as possible lie will endeavour to see certain places and investigate itnportportant Empire development schemes. It is understood that he promises to examine the Empire as a great economic institution that is daily becoming more and more self-supporting. Nothing latterly has so impressed the Imperial Government as the necessity for developing this ideal, for which Air Amery. may be regarded as the Cabinet’s "direct envoy. Air Amery’s own words best interpret the viewpoint: “For a mighty people like ourselves, living in a litUe island, a national foundation for industries isn’t enough. We need an Imperial foundation. I am going to see things for mvself, to follow up the Imperial Conference’s work, and gather a knowledge of the Empire’s economic conditions that I hope will enable mo to contribute something of value to the study of these groat problems of the future.” MARKETING BOARD EXPENSES. A White Paper has been issued disclosing that the Empire Marketing Board, to March 31 had spent, of the £1.000,000 allocated, £103.000, of which £67,000 was expended on publicity and £22,000 on research. The Dominions’ Office has granted £SOOO to provide for a special mission to Australia to discuss Imperial trade. EMPIRE INDUSTRIES. FEDERATION” SCHEMES. LONDON, July 4. The Empire Producers’ Organisation welcomes the suggestion of the Secretory for the Dominions. Air Amery, that federations of the Empire’s wheat, wheat, dairy, fruit and tobacco industries should be established, similar to the existing Sugar Federation. The chairman of the Empire Producers’ Organisation, Mr Ben Morgan, said that he had already arranged for meetings of the representatives to discuss the practicability of tobacco and fruit federations.
