STOWAWAY ON SHIP.
13-YEAR-OLD BOY
HIS FOURTH ATTEMPT
FREMANTLE, July 5
On the arrival of the Orvieto from the eastern States last night Harry Belcher, aged 13, of St. Hilda, was handed over to the police as a stowaway. Belcher, who is tall for his age, told a remarkable story. He said that this was his fourth attempt to reach England. Previously this year he had reached Adelaide, and was then put ashore and sent home. This time he disclosed his presence a day out from Melbourne, but when the Orvieto was nearing Adelaide he hid in a lifeboat and did not show himself until the vessel was at sea. He was prevented from .hiding again. The runaway is the eldest boy in a family of four. He had always stowed away* on Orient boats, he said, having been unable to board other mail steamers. Belcher was before the Children s Court to-day, and is being detained pending arrangements for his return to Alelbourne.
