CHARGES AGAINST BOY.
TO BE DEALT WITH IN CHILDREN’S COURT. CHRISTCHURCH, July 21. A 15-year-old boy, committed from the Children’s Court to the Supreme Court on charges of robbery with violence (snatching an elderly lady s handbag and pushing her so that she fell) and breaking and entering, was before Hon. Mr Justice Sim in the Supreme Court to-day. The Crown Prosecutor said that although the offences were grave, it seemed wrong that the boy should be sent to the Borstal Institute if this could be avoided. He understood that action was being taken in Wellington to have the Act amended to clear up the question whether children charged with indictable oifences should be dealt with in the Supreme Court or in the Children’s Court. If the Judge had power the wisest course would be to send to the boy to a training farm. He was sure that if the case were returned to the Magistrate’s Court the magistrate would adopt this course. The Judge remitted the case to the Children’s Court to be dealt with there.
