On Saturday afternoon in perfect weather, before an excellent attendance, the second of the home-and-home matches between Manawatu and Horowhenua was played at the Palmerston Show Grounds. Play was bright and interesting throughout, but although plenty of opportunities were, afforded both sides, not one point was obtained from conversions or penalties. The Manawatu forwards enjoyed supremacy in the scrums and lineouts. Their backs early began to adopt agressive tactics, while during the major portion of the game Horowhenua were kept busy defending. Manawatu won by 18 points to 9. JUNIORS. HOROWHENUA v. MANAWATU. The junior game between representative teams from the same district councils resulted in a narrow victory for Horowhenua by 11 points, to 9. Manawatu led by 9 to 3 at half time.
