If lie fails to observe the restrictions imposed by the Licensing Committee, the disqualification will be immediately reinstated. This enables Gray to be employed in racing stables. RACING CONFERENCE. REPORT OF STIPENDIARY STEWARDS. Wellington, Yesterday. At the Racing Conference,, the stipendiary stewards reported that race meetings had been efficiently controlled and a "real improvement effected. It was suggested that the enforcement of the rule regarding unruly horses be rigorously adhered to. Attention was drawn to the large number of serious fatal accidents, mainly in jumping events, attributable, in the committee’s opinion, to the many short-distance hurdle races. Clubs would be well advised to have no hurdle race of less than two miles on their programmes. This would quickly do away with the inclusion of many “squibs” in contests. No hurdle race should be permitted on a course of less than a mile in circumference—The report was adop-, ted.
The dates committee regrets, that contrary to promises in regard to applications for new lotalisator -licenses, the Minister has alloted the Franklin and Taumaruriui Racing Clubs one-day licenses without first consulting, the Conference or the committee thereon. Under the circumstances, the committee have no option but to grant the Franklin Racing Club March Bth and the Taumarunui Club December 12th, utilising licenses previously granted to Waverley and Nelson. Highweight Handicaps are now races in which the minimum weights shall not be less than eight stone.
The Taranaki application to have its representation increased to two votes was refused.
When sufficient hurdle and steeplechase jockeys are not available for jumpers’ flat races, a licensed jockey may now. be engaged with a 71b. penalty. 1 In future, horses which are the property of one owner and which are running in separate divisions of a race in which the totalisator is opened only once, will be bracketed.
