A trade journal says: “One does not benefit a man by helping him to buy something he cannot afford. Indeed, it has been said that credit is a worse evil than drink to the poorer classes. Every year a certain number of people are summoned for debt, and in many cases the creditor is the real offender and the debtor is the victim. It is a pity judges have not the power to send the creditor to prison with the debtor in flagrant cases of usurious persecution.”
