Having heard of people trying to tame eels, Miss Stevens, an Inglewood lady, began to make friends with one she saw basking in a sunny pond. She threw bread crumbs gently into the water, and continued to do so for several days, laterchanging the diet to meat. The morsels were quickly accepted, and soon another eel joined the original inhabitant of the pond, and together they eat from the lady’s hand and allowed her to rub their heads softly with her fingers. At first the eels were shy of strangers, but later took no heed of their coming. Jealousy, however, arose between them, the bigger attacking the smaller and both fighting nose to nose with backs hunched up.
