DONATION OF £40,000 TO FIGHT

■ Whilliam Henry Jarvis, formerly a tanner of Christchurch, has bequeathed the income from a sum of approximately £40,000 to assist scientific investigators in New Zealand into the cancer and tuberculosis diseases. The will was filed for probate to-day. Private bequests to relatives and employees totalled £BBSO, and the estator directed that the income of the residuary trust property should be applied in assisting individuals' wffio proved themselves capable in the.prosecution of scientific investigations in. New Zealand which might result in the discovery of remedies or cures for and in the resisting and eradicating of cancer and consumption.
Practically a free hand is left to the trustees as how the income shall be used towards this object. The testator does not specify that the money shall be used for scholarships only but rather that funds be provided to help advanced students or practitioners undertaking re : search work.
