The friends of Mr Fred Ebbett, of Johnston Steet, will regret to learn that he is an inmate of the Palmerston N. Hospital, 'suffering from a severe illness. The death occurred on Saturday of an old and respected resident of Levin, in the person of Mrs Mary Doyle, of Mako Mako Road, widow of Mr Matthew Doyle, in her 79th year.

A Dunedin message states that the senior lawyer in New Zealand and as far as is known the senior of the profession in Australia, Mr. Darcy Ilaggitt, died on Saturday. He was born at Hobart in October 1842, and was admitted as a barrister (there in 1804, arriving in Dunedin in the same year. He entered into the partnership of B. C. Haggit-t and Spencer Brent in 1871, deceased retiring in 1904. He was later librarian for the Otago Law Society.
