There was an attendance of nhout 800 at (he Rebbington Shield match, which was played in Levin yesterday afternoon Hie iloodod Foxlon-Lcvin road evidenilv blocking a large number from attending. The game resulted in a win for Horowhenua by 38 points to 13. The first spell opened somewhat loosely and did not improve greatly in the matter of combination but there were plenty of instances 01. clever individual effort, especially among the rear divisions of both sides. In the second half the concerted work improved vastly, and the last twenty minutes wore full of incident, the passing and taking of the ball having improved as the spell progressed. Both the full-baels/ played splendid defensive games, ami the local man, Ryder, added to his laurels by his well-timed tackling no less than by his judicious placing of the hall. The visiting forwards were a fairly even lot, with Conrad ever prominent, and Rush giving great help on the wing, llorowhenua had the services of such stalwarts as their captain Jacob (on the wing-, Hakarnia and Tatana, A\. Parata at half, and Roberts in the three-quar-ter line.

HIGH SCHOOL DEFEAT WANGANUI COLLEGE. Between 3000 and 4.000 people witnessed a match between Wanganui College and Palmerston North Boys’ School at Palmerston North yesterday when the home team emerged the victors by 10 points to S, after Wanganui had held an eight-point advantage at (he interval. In the second spell Rose kicked three goals—penalty, mark and held—which gave Palmerston North the lead.
The game was a great exposition of Rugby, both teams giving an excellent exhibition of fast, open and clean rugby, but the main feature was tlie wouclorful taekling on both sides. In the first spell the game was more a forward one and WnngunuFwith, its heavier team certainly had the best of the play though the sides otherwise were evenly matched. Wanganui’s only try was a very pretty one and would have beaten the safest of rearguards. After half time Palmerston showed a decided improvement and altered their tactics to allow the backs to handle in great style, but the Collegians were equal to the occasion and gave one of the finest displays of defensive Rugby seen in Manawatu for a long time.
