QUESTIONS FOK MINISTERS
The position of tlu\ small farmer was one of the first matters mentioned in the House of Representatives. Mr. G. TV Forbes (Hurunui) gave notice to ask the Prime Minister if he would have an investigation made into the economic position of the small farmer in the Dominion with a view to assisting him in his present difficulty. The observations of the Commissioner of Police (Mr. W. B. M‘Ilveney) in regard to the increase of crime in Auckland formed the subject of a question asked by -Mr. J. A. Lee (Auckland East) in the House of Representatives.
Mr. Lee said he intended to ask the Minister of Justice if the alarmist statement of the Commissioner in regard to crime in Auckland was made with the cognisance of the Minister.
Mr. P. Fraser (Wellington Central) gave notice of his intention to introduce a Bill dealing with the regulation of the publication of judicial proceedings, in order to prevent injury to public morals.
The Minister of Pensions is being asked by Mr. E. J. Howard (Christchurch South) whether the Family Allowances Act will be amended this session to enable married women who have been deserted by their husbands and who are supporting their families to come under the benefits of the Act.
Mr. H. M. Campbell (Hawke’s Bay) intends to ask the Minister of Education whether he will make a reasonable effort to provide dental clinics for the treatment of backblock children. Notice to introduce the Divorce and Matrimonial Causes Act was given in the House of Representatives by Mi’. T. M. Wilford (Hutt).
