JUNIOR GAME.
The junior game Awahou v. Miranui was played on drier ground and resulted in a win for Miranui by 24*points to 9. In the first spell Awahou had the best of the game and were leading but in the second half the visitors predominated. Stickles, H. McGregor and P. Kauri scored for Awahou and Croon (2), Vertongen, Narsby and Dalziell for Miranui and Pickard kicked a penalty goal and converted three tries. Mr. K. Hirini controlled the game.
To-morrow, at the Palmerston showgrounds, the chosen of the Palmerston High School and Wanganui College will compete for Rugby supremacy. A good game is anticipated.
The Fox ton primary school team are leading for the Austin Banner, which is a tribute to their coach Mr. C. Procter, who takes a keen interest in the boys. Their win by a margin of one point against Levin on Saturday was a dose call although they scored two tries to Levin’s converted try. H. Gardiner from a forward rush scored in the corner and from a line-out R. Coley kicked across to B. Coley, who raced over in the corner. Hirini failed to add the major points from difficult angles. Williams scored for Levin and Pentecost converted. There were no scores in the second spell. The Foxton team was afterwards entertained to, morning tea by the girls in the charge of Mrs. Smith. Mr. F. A. Mason briefly thanked the Levin players for their hospitality. Mr. McDonald, in reply, spoke, of the proposed Primary School seven-a-side tournament for schools in Horowhenua district.
Owing to defections, due to several causes, the Foxton juniors who met Weraroa at Levin on Saturday, had to make up their team with several third grade players. The game was closely contested and at times very spectacular. The- local
boys were defeated by G (a tw by Hartley and penalty goal by N. Huff) to 8. _________ , . v ;‘i BEBBINGTON SHIELD MATCH.
