WINDFALL FOR SHANNON DAIRY CO.

REFUND ON POWER CHARGES

A refund of £3OO to the Shannon Co-operative Dairy Company w: decided on by the Horowhenua Power Board held in Levin on Tuesday. This sum represents over charges for a period of two years, due to the faulty action of a registering' device. In explaining the position the chairman (Mr. G. A. Monk) said that for some time it had been apparent either that the company’s load was extraordinary as compared with that of any other dairy company, or that the connections were not linked up properly. The Board decided that their engineer (Mr. J. A. Smith) should make investigations, and he found that, the indicator was not linked up properly .with the machinery. The company’s over-payments to the Board went back to the March quarter of 1925, extending over eight quarters. A very careful calculation had been got out by the secretarial staff and the engineer, and they found that the company had overpaid the Board by a. little over £3OO. This came as somewhat of a shock to himself, and the only thing to do now was to refund the money. He had met the chairman of directors, the manager,' and Mr. Barber (a director), and discussed the whole situation, and those gentlemen felt that, with the refund suggested, the charge for current for the factory would be a reasonable one. Following on the interview, the company's secretary wrote stating that the company agreed to accept £3OO in full settlement of any claim againsf the Board in this connection. The chairman moved that the Board authorise a refund to the Shannon Dairy Company of £3OO, being- the amount of over-payments through excess indication of the Company’s load, caused by error in connecting the indicator when the plant was installed.

The motion was seconded by Mr. W. 11. Gunning, and carried without dissent.
