Yesterday afternoon the local primary school fifteen journeyed to Shannon to play their first match for the Austin Banner. Leaving Foxton at 2.15 p.m. they did not arrive at Shannon until 4 o’clock, chieliy owing to the “Noah’s Ark” doing duty as a ferry across the river, refusing to work. Consequently only two twenty minute spells were played, the last one being played in semi-darkness. After a very even game, the result was a draw, no score on either side. The. game was chiefly a forward one, the backs on either side, owing the heavy ground, being unable to get going. After the match both teams were entertained at afternoon tea by the Shannon girls. 'Before leaving, Mr Procter thanked the Shannon people for their hospitality, and the boys gave three cheers for their opponents, and three cheers for the girls who provided afternoon tea.
