MAN ATTEMPTS SUICIDE.

EFFECTS OF DRINKING BOUT. Wellington, June 13. A story told to a constable in Manners Street at 2.30 a.m. on June 3rd was upset in the Court to-day, when Henry Hewitt, a middle-aged man, -pleaded guilty to attempting suicide. With his throat cut Hewitt told the constable that, while sleeping off the effects of a drinking bout on Oriental Bay Beach, someone attacked him, causing the injury. Senior-Sergeant Landor told the Court that Hewitt had certainly been drinking, but had cut his throat in a fit of despression. Accused was ordered to come up for sentence when called upon, and to pay costs.
