CAR AND MOTOR CYCLE COLLIDE.

TWO LOCAL RESIDENTS IN HOSPITAL.

An accident of a serious nature occurred on Foxton line about 4.30 yesterday afternoon, when a car driven by Mr. J. A. Russell, of Gillespie’s line, collided with a motor cycle ridden pillion fashion by two young men named Ernest Graham, aged 18 years, and Gordon Perreau, aged 21, both residents of Foxton. The scene of the collision was a spot about 200 yards on the Palmerston North side of the Awapuni bridge and the cyclists were proceeding home while Mr. Russell was travelling towards Palmerston North. It is stated that the latter was on the point of passing another car when lie was met by the men on the motor cycle. A headon collision resulted in a badlydamaged radiator while the motorcycle, practically a new one, was smashed into a hopeless wreck. Everything possible was done for Perreau and Graham, who had been badly battered about by the collision and appeared to be suffering intense pain. They were subsequently taken to the Palmerston North Hospital where an examination revealed that each had a fractured leg as well as minor cuts and abrasions. Word received by Mr. Perreau this morning was to the effect that Gordon had sustained a fracture of the leg just below the knee. “Ernie” Graham’s leg is also fractured and he is more knocked about than Gordon. It will be some weeks before either will be able to leave tlie institution. COLLISION ON WHIROKTNO BRIDGE. Two cars owned by Wellington residents, believed .to be Messrs Parish and Wainborough, met in a head-on collision at the Whirokino bridge between Foxton and Levin yesterday morning. Both ears bad to be practically carried home by the breakdown wagon, but fortunately no one is reported injured.
