BOWLING.
ANNUAL MEETING OF FOXTON CLUB.
The annual general meeting of the Foxton Bowling Club is advertised to take place at Grady's Rooms at 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday next. The, meeting will lie conducted on similar lines to that held last year — light refreshments during the course of the meeting. The follow-' ing is the annual report of tile Committee to be presented together with the balance-sheet:'— Your committee have pleasure in presenting the balance-sheet, for the year ending May 31st, 1927. The Club’s assets, after allowing for depreciation, are £495 6s 6d. liabilities £216 12s 9d, leaving a surplus of £2BO 13s 9d. In August Mv T. Winstanley, the secretary, left the district, and the Club lost a most enthusiastic member. Mr J. H. Downes took over the secretary’s work again. Early in September several members put in a lot of hard work preparing the green for the opening of the season. The green was opened for play on October 6th, in glorious weather, and there was a good attendance of members and many visitors from round the district, all of whom had an enjoyable afternoon. The Triangular Shield matches were held as usual, Shannon Club carrying off the trophy, with Levin second. Inter-club matches were arranged with Levin and Otaki, and were greatly enjoyed. Your Committee much regret that the visit from the Otaki Club was unfortunate in being marred by wet weather, and no play could be indulged in. The. rink chosen to play in the Champion of Champions games held at Palmerston North were unable to make the trip, and caused disappointment to some of the clubs at Palmerston North. One rink met a Feilding rink for the Dixon Cup, but were unsuccessful. The season as a whole has been fairly successful, although some of the members did not take advantage of the competition games, through no fault of their own. The trophy which seems to cause most interest is the Nve Ferns, and many good games have been played. Early in March a gale took the verandah roof off the pavilion, and several members have kindly offered to assist in replacing this. Your Committee wish to thank the ladies for their kind efforts in looking after the croquet green and supervising the afternoon tea. The Committee would recommend that a good deal of work be done on the green before next season, and it would also recommend that the amount of 'subscription he reconsidered at- this annual meeting, as the present revenue from subscriptions is not sufficient to keep, the green as we would like it to be kept. Your Committee realise that a good howling green in our town is a great asset, and we arc convinced that if citizens would only come along they would find a great deal of healthy sport in the good, old game of bowls. The special thanks of the Club are due to Mr AVhibley for his care of the gardens and flowers, and to Mr J. Thomson for the valuable labour and carting lie has and to the retiring secretary, who •has at all times been willing to assist in any way possible.”
