FATALITY OF YEARS AGO

A BOOT AND SOCK FOUND. Timaru, May 30. Nearly thirteen years ago a tourist named S. L. King and two guides lost their lives on the Linda Glacier when attempting the ascent of Mt. Cook. About three months ago part of a leg of one of them was found in the ice and now one of King’s boots lias been found with the lace still neatly tied in a bow at the front as it was when he set out on the fatal journey. It was found on the Hochsetter icefield between three and four miles from the spot where the party was lost. The hoot lace and sock, are still in a good state of preservation except that the seam up the back of the boot has opened. There are now between three and four inches of snow at Mount Cook Hermitage and the first of the winter sports there started last week, skiing being the favourite amusement on the ice.
