FOOTBALL
WEDNESDAYITES AT PLAY, FOXTON DEFEAT LEVIN. The Wednesday afternoon matches are creating increasing interest and yesterday there was a good attendance of the public on the local racecourse to witness a match between the local Wednesdayites and Levin. The object of these matches between lock! and Palmerston and Levin teams is to provide games for those players who are unable to participate in Saturday games. The Levin team were three short and the ful complement was made up with Foxton players. The Foxton team- included two senior players and several prominent juniors and the fact that Levin were defeated by 24 points to 3 was therefore not surprising. The game was somewhat ragged throughout and Foxton were penalised time and again for breaches. The locals did most of the attacking throughout, but in the first spell Levin kept them busy, McKenzie and Bull putting in some fast movements and Bull opened the scoring for Levin with a good try, the major points were not added. Huff transferred to Stevenson who crossed for Foxton and Ilutf registered the major points. Huff was the next to score for Foxton and the try was converted —Foxton 10 —Levin 3. Huff transferred to Stevenson to Broad who streaked across, the kick was unsuccessful — Foxton 13 —Levin 3. Shortly after Broad again crossed with a slick run along the line. Foxton 16 — Levin 3. From another rush Stevenson transferred to Broad who again scored and Huff converted — Foxton 21—Levin 3. Shortly after Royal made an opening for Broad who notched his fourth try and the game ended Foxton 24 —Levin 3. Mr. Taylor controlled the game. The following team has been selected to represent Wairarapa in the Ranfurly Shield challenge at Napier on June 3: —Full hack, Roach (Gladstone)-, three-quarters, Yates (Masterton), Stringfellow (Greytown), R. Commenting on the AwahouSliannon senior match played at Foxton on Saturday the Levin Chronicle says: —The best back on the Awahou side was Westwood, who gave a good allround'display, Moses and Fuller came next. Pene was the outstanding forward. For Shannon, K. Dalzell and Hurst in the forwards played consistently throughout, while Tohi played his best game this season. The backs all did their work well, but Walls was the most prominent, giving a good display. Pakelms defeated the Maori team by 14 points to 13 at Otaki yesterday. ' Moses did not play for the, Maori team owing to an arm injury. Foxton Juniors will meet Foxton Thirds in a practice match on the racecourse on Saturday, at 2.40 p.m.
