FOURTH ROUND. Same order as Third Round, but Foxton D.H.S. and Awahou play Levin D. 11.5., in Levin. MAORIS IN SOUTH AFRICA. SHOULD NOT ACCOMPANY ALL BLACKS. Maori players should not he included in the All Black team to visit South Africa next year. That was the statement made by Mr. S. S. Dean, chairman of the Management Committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union when the controlling body was discussing the South African proposals. With the events which followed the Springbok match with the Maoris during the Dominion tour of 1921 still in mind the New Zealand Union appears disposed to take no risks'. “There is no disguising the fact that racial feeling in South Africa is of the strongest nature,” said Mr. Dean “and my own feeling is that it is quite impossible to include Maori players in the side to be sent from hero. I have discussed the matter with Sir Maui Pomarc and Hon. A. T. Ngata and they both thiiik as I do, that the only safe course is to omit Maoris from the (cam. More than that it would not: l)e fair to the Maoris themselves, for did we include any in the team it is certain that they would he ostracised when they arrived in South Africa. Kingi Tahewa, (he representative of the Maori Advisory Board, who attends meetings of the Management Committee at the invitation of the New Zealand Union, agreed with Mr. Dean that the sending of Maoris would be likely to create difficulties. He appreciated the points made by the chairman and promised to bring the matter before the Maori Advisory Board at its next meeting and ask its opinion.
