RESTAURANT RAIDED
LIQUOR SEIZED. Auckland, May 28. A lightning raid was carried out by the police at a restaurant in Hobson Street at 9 o’clock last night, when the building was entirely surrounded and entered. While the raiders were busily at work inside, a large crowd of curious congregated and watched with interest many dozen bottles of beer being carried outside and placed into waiting motor-cars.. A large quantity of liquor was seized, and when the liquor-laden motors started for the police station the crowd raised three hearty cheers for McUvenoy’s men. No one was arrested, but one or two names and addresses were transferred to police notebooks, and no doubt prosecutions on summons at, the police court will follow.
