OBITUARY.
DAVID MACPHERSON, AGED 72 YEARS. There passed away in the Palmerston North Hospital on Thursday, a well-known resident of this district in the person of Mr. David Macpherson, aged 72 years. The late Mr. Macpherson had enjoyed excellent health until a few weeks ago, when lie was taken to the hospital suffering from an internal complaint which proved fatal. Deceased was born in Londonderry (North of Ireland), and as a young man of 22 came out to New Zealand, where he landed at the Bluff in 1877. He ultimately settled in Ashhurst, where for twenty years lie was a well-known figure in business and public life. The late Mr. Macpherson come north in the late ’nineties, and settled in Palmerston North as manager of the grocery department of the U.F.C.A. Later lie went into business on his own account, eventually giving up to become secretary of the Licensed Victuallers’ Association, which position lie held for a long period. For the past six years Mr. Maeplierson had lived in retirement at the Manawatu Heads, and the news of his comparatively sudden death will come as a great shock to his many friends both here and in Palmerston North. He is survived by bis widiw, four sons and two daughters. The sons are Messrs Andrew (Foxton), Norman (Napier), William (Palmerston North), and Alec. (Whangaroi), and the daughters are Misses Vida (Palmerston North), and Fanny (Foxton).
