LIQUOR CARGO.

EVADING UNITED STATES LAW

VANCOUVER, May 10

While the American Government renounced its claim to sovereignty on the high seas in the celebrated Federalship case, that vessel is being driven from pillar to post trying to “cash in” its £200,000 liquor cargo. When she was finally released a week ago, sailing proudly through the Golden Gate with the Panama flag at the halyard, she turned south to complete her voyage to the mythical liquor purchasers in San Salvador, but within a few hours she turned north again, for her owners sent peremptory instructions by wireless that she return to Vancouver. She arrived today. It appears that U.S. Government had sufficient influence with the Panama Government to cancel the Federalship’s registration, and immediately that was done the Americans had planned to seize her once more as a pirate, so the cargo was rushed back into Canadian territory.
