CONFLAGRATION

OLD SLAUGHTERHOUSE DESTROYED.

The old slaughterhouse building on the Foxton-Himatangi road, belonging to Air. A. S. Easton, was destroyed by fire at 2 a.m. on Wednesday. The building had not been in use for many years and was, prior to the fire, used by Mr. R. Bryant to store hay in. The cause of the outbreak is unknown and the building is not covered by insurance. The fire siren was sounded and the fire engine went out but returned after location of the fire.
