THE KATANA MOVEMENT
WILL MAORIS LEAVE PAH?
■ It is stated (says the Wanganui Herald) that a further difficulty confronts the Katana organisation, relating to the farm property which has been worked for some time past. Owing to certain financial difficulties there is a probability that the farm will, during the next few weeks, be placed on the market by the mortgagees concerned. Owing to the troubles which have come thick and fast upon the organisation of late, it is feared there will soon be no choice but for the people to return to their homes. As some are too impoverished to go on their own account, it has been suggested that the Government consider the matter of granting a free passage home to the people now in residence at the pah. Under the circumstances it seems altogether impracticable for the settlement to remain in occupation by the' majority of the people who are in residence there.
