In order to compensate the la-' dies of the choir of St. Paul’s Church, Auckland, who had their handbags stolen from the choir room during the service last Sunday evening it has been decided by the vestry that a sum be voted from the parish funds sufficient to cover the loss. The six bags which were stolen contained some £5 in cash, besides jewellery and other articles. The door of the cloakroom in which the bags were left had inadvertently been left open. One bag has since been recovered, minus its contents on a nearby bowling green, where it had ‘evidently been thrown by the thief.
