YOUNG GIRL ARRESTED.
£I.BOO SAID TO BE MISSING ■* Christchurch, May 11. According to statements made by the-police, a linn qf merchants in a big wav in the cilv has been defrauded <d a sum ol money approximately £IBOO by a girl employee, and a girl of 22 years oi. age, who has been employed as the linn’s secretary ■ appeared, before Mr. 11. P. Lawry, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court to-day on a charge of stealing the missing money. “Thought she is charged with the theft of only £20,” said Chief-De-tective Lewis, “the auditors, who have been investigating the books think that the defalcations will amount to about £1800.”
The girl was remanded until Tuesday, and bail was fixed at £IOO and one surety of £IOO, or two of £SO. Her name was suppressed in the meantime.
