A remarkable accident occurred in Melbourne lately, when a man was knocked down by a motor ear and his wooden leg caught in the clutch. When struck by the car the man was thrown to the roadway, and, falling between thewheels, the car passed over him. His wooden leg became jammed in the clutch of the car. The driver made frantic efforts to pull up the machine, but could not do so. The old man was dragged for about 40 yards, when a constable and a number of pedestrians, thinking that the motorist was mad, forcibly brought the car to a standstill. Even then it was found impossible to extricate the unfortunate man until the car was turned upside down. The ambulance had been summoned, and the man was rushed to a hospital. Here it was found that the only injuries lie had suffered were a broken wooden leg and a cut hand.
