HEMP MARKET.

APRIL GRADING RETURNS.

The grading returns for hemp, tow, stripper tow and stripper slips for the month of April have been issued by the Department of Agriculture as follows:

The detailed particulars of the hemp graded are:—

Thirteen bales at Picton were graded tine. Thirty bales at Auckland, 53 at Wellington, 118 at Foxton, 4 at the Bluff, and 6 at Lyttelton were rejected. The number of bales in each grade were as follows, the number for the corresponding period of last year being given in parenthesis:—Fine 13 (91), good fair 596 (801), high fair 2520 (5418), low fair 3519 (2426), common 804 (572), rejected 211 (282), a total of 7663 bales as against 9,590 bales; graded the same period last year, a decrease of 1927 bales, i The number of bales graded at each port were: —Auckland 1830, Wellington 1965, Foxton 1904, Picton 82, Blenheim 143, Dunedin 246, Pt. Chalmers 276, Bluff 1046, Lyttelton 171. The following shows the detailed particulars of the tow: —

Twenty-two hales at Auckland, 15 at Wellington, 41 at Foxton, and one at the Bluff were eomdenmed. The following shows the number of bales in ege'h grade, the number for the corresponding period of . last year being given in parenthesis: — Ist grade 240 (420), 2nd grade 1289 (1749), 3rd grade 467 (411), condemned 79 (173), a total of 2075 . bales as against 2753 bales, graded the same period last year, a decrease of 678 bales. The number of bales graded at each port were: —Auckland 483, Wellington 460, Foxton 483, Picton 34, Blenheim 73, Pt. Chalmers 131, Bluff 381, Lyttelton 30. Stripper tow:—Thirty six bales at Wellington were graded 2nd grade. A total of 3b bales as against 210 bales, graded the same period last year, a decrease of 174 bales.

Stripper slips: —Five bales at Auckland and 144 at Wellington were graded 2nd grade. Thirty-se-ven bales at Wellington and 135 at the Bluff were passed for export. Four bales at the Bluff were condemned. The total number graded was 325 bales as against 285 bales, graded the same period last year, an increase of 40 bales.
