MOTOR ACCIDENT.
CAR. COLLIDES WITH CHAR-A-BANC.
NO ONE SERIOUSLY INJURED.
Another motor accident occurred at the Russell Street and Victoria Street corner this morning, when a car driven by Mr T. Trigell, farmer, of Moutoa, collided with Messrs Madge Bros.’ ohar-a-banp. Mrs Trigell, who was accompanying Mr Trigell, and who was the only other occupant in the car, was cut about the arm by dying glass from the shattered wind-screen, and was conveyed to the doctor for attention. Fortunately no one else was injured.
Miss F. Theet, of Auckland, a passenger on the char-a- v banc, had a miraculous escape from injury. She was sitting in the front seat with the driver (Mr J. O’Reilly) and a few minutes prior to the accident lowered the glass window. Had she not done this, it is very probable that she would have been badly cut by flying glass, as it was at this point that the char-a-banc took the force of the impact.
It appears that Mr Trigell, who was travelling up Russell Street in a northerly direction, thought the char-a-banc was taking that corner, instead of going straight ahead along Victoria Street. His car struck the char-a-banc’s front axle, glanced along the mudguard, struck the door beside the front seat with considerable force, denting in the body up to just past the second door, and tearing off the running board. The front axle of the bus was bent, and the body work strained, but the engine sustained no damage. Mr Trigell’s cai was completely stove in in the front.
Both vehicles were insured. [The locality has been the scene of several motor accidents.]
