DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the above was held last night, presided over by Mr. J. K. Ilornblpw. Also present: Messrs Alsop, Cowley, Perreau, Huntley, Hutchins, John Ross, Rangiheuea (secretary), and F. A. Mason, (headmaster). Apology for absence was received from Mr. .Stevenson. The chairman welcomed Messrs Huntley and Cowley to the committee, and it was resolved to forward letters of appreciation to the Rev. W, H. Walton and Mr F. Woods, excommitteemen, for past services. Accounts amounting to £33 0s Id were passed for payment. The headmaster reported that Miss Dent, who had been on Vthe teaching staff for over three years, would sever her connection with the school on Friday next; that the vacation would commence on Friday and school would resume on Monday, May 23rd; certain improvements were recommended; necessary furniture had been received from the Board and alterations had been carried out to the old residence which would be used as a temporary building for woodwork and cooking; library books to the value of £l4 14s Od had been procured for the secondary department. The headmaster also received a communication from Mr. Holmes Runnicles re instructing the children in singing. The report was adopted and it was decided to engage Mr. Runnicles in terms of his letter and that concerts be arranged at the end of each term. Resolved to erect goal and basket ball posts in the playground. The chairman and Messrs Huntley and Hutchins were appointed visitors for the month. I Resolved to call tenders for the removal of jriue stumps in the girls playground and the sale and removal of corrugated iron fence. Mr. Alsop was instructed to invite applications for cleaning the school at the Beach. It was decided that the staff: and committee meet socially in the school on - Thursday evening. Others matters of minor importance were dealt with and the meeting rose.
