TRIBUTE TO MR. ALEX. ROSS

Regret was expressed at the Power Board’s meeting held in Levin on Tuesday by the chairman (Mr. G. A. Monk) that they were losing Mr. Alex. Ross, a member who joined the Board a year after its formation and had now retired on account of ill-health. The chairman mentioned that when they had a long controversy relative to flaxmill rates, Mr. Ross offered the use of his electrically equipped mill at Wairoa for any experiments which the Board deemed necessary, and as a result their engineer (Mi'. J. A. Smith) and several members were sent to Wtairoa, where experiments were made. As a result, this Board has been able to sec practically all the flaxmills in its district equipped for electric power. Although Mr. Ross was a flaxmiller himself, he never forgot the Board’s interests, and the chairman admired his fairness when the rates were being fixed. The chairman moved a resolution expressing appreciation of the services rendered by Mr. Ross., regretting his illness, and hoping for his very speedy recovc ery. Mr. A. Seifert, in seconding this, said he was one of those who visited Wairoa, apd as a result of the test made there, lie could say that when the millers of this district installed their plants, not one of them made a mistake. He understood that Mr. Ross had been advised to take a rest for a considerable time, both from business and travelling. The motion was carried.
