DEFAULTING HUSBANDS
PAY OR GAOL,
Auckland, April 26,
“I can’t do it; it is impossible,” said a man at the Magistrate’s Court this morning, just after Mr. F Iv. Hunt had made an order against him for the maintenance of his wife and family. “Well, you will have to pay it, that’s all, or else go to gaol ” said Mr. Hunt. “Last week I had five women to sec me to get me to sign warrants for the arrest of their husbands. Five of them left home during Easter. It is getting pretty hot," observed the Magistrate, after the defaulting husband had left the Court.
