Mr and Mrs John Ross returned to Foxton from Auckland to-day.
During the absence of Mr. J. Linklater, M.P., on a holiday visit to the South Sea Islands, the Hon. Edward Newman, M.C.L., will carry out his Parliamentary duties. In referring to the unavoidable absence, through illness, of Mr A. W. Stevenson al Thursday night’s meeting of householders, the chairman expressed the hope that Mr Stevenson would soon be restored to health. He also paid a tribute to the services of Mr Stevenson on the Committee.
Mr J. W. Murray, who has been a resident of Shannon for 22 years, together with Mrs Murray and Miss Murray, was tendered a farewell at the Druids’ Hall, Shannon, on Thursday night. The Mayor (Mr E. Butt) made the presentation ol a well-filled wallet. Mr and Mrs Murlay were also the subjects of many eulogistic references to the good work they had done during their long residence in the town.
