SOLDIERS’ MEMORIAL.

The local returned soldiers naturally take an interest in the memorial erected to their fallen comrades in the Triangle in Main Street. They are of opinion, however, that something should be done to replace the chained enclosure within which the memorial is erected, by a raised concrete curbing. In order to assist in effecting this improvement, the executive has decided to apply any surplus from the Anzac Day collection towards this object. Wle feel sure the public will respond liberally to their appeal, and that the Borough Council will subsidise, from the reserves fund, an amount sufficient to pay for the removal of what is generally admitted to be an unsightly and unnecessary barrier to an otherwise ornate setting.
