CONVICTED AND DISCHARGED

Auckland, April 20. A plea of not guilty to a charge of assaulting his wife was made by John Clive, aged 51, in the Police Court to-day. On April 15, when accused first appeared and was remanded in custody, Senior-Sergeant Edwards stated that. Mrs Clive was then in the hospital in a serious condition and was unconscious. However, she had recovered rapidly and the affair was not as serious as was first thought. Mrs. Clive described a_ domestic quarrel, saying her husband pushed her and she fell, striking her forehead.

Accused was convicted arid discharged.
