Many instances have been recorded of the great affection animals have for their masters, and particularly of the devotion of the canine tribe. An extraordinary ex - ample has just come before our notice. Three years ago the late Mr F.- Williams came into possession of a pup, which he reared, and on becoming confined to bed with illness, the dog took up a position in the room, which he refused to leave. On the day the late Mr Williams’ mortal remains were carried out of the house, the dog left the room, but when the relatives returned after the funeral they found the dog had died.
Four out of every ten women smokers are being slowly poisoned by nicotine! So it was announced in the cable news the other day, on the authority of a famous London specialist who says the unmistakable symptoms are: nervous debility, loss of vitality, head noises, throat troubles, and palpitation of the heart. Well, excess of nicotine is well known to produce these effects. That’s why the smoking of American tobacco (all of them more or less reeking with nicotine) is so injurious. If you want really pure tobacco, all but free from nicotine, you should try the N.Z. grown brands. Sweet, cool, fragrant and satisfying, they appeal irresistib e to all smokers and may be smoked all day, if desired, without causing unpleasant @r harmful results. Any tobacconist will supply you. If you like a mild aromatic ask for “Riverhead Gold,” if you prefer something stronger get “Toasted Navy Cut” (Bulldog) a beautiful medium, or “Cut Plug No. 10” (Bulkhead), a fine full-flavoured tobacco.* GG.
