The gas manager reported that during the mouth a good number of, services and consumers' fittings had been cleaned out and one new service and small cooker fitted in the shop in the Town Hall. The monthly statement showed gas unaccounted for as nil and this was due to the fact that a number of meters are read once a year only.—Adopted. - CORRESPONDENCE was read and dealt with as follows : From Messrs Ross, Rough and Co., in reply to the Council’s letter re drain through their property, stating that they were not prepared to clear same and were quite agreeable to it being closed. — Referred to the Borough Solicitor. From the Foxton Chamber of Commerce, suggesting that the Council set aside a piece of Victoria Park as a camping ground. — Held over. From the Manawatu County Council notifying the Council that a protest meeting of local bodies cited by the River Board would be held in Palmerston North at an early date, and asking the Council to send a representative to the conference. The Town Clerk also read a letter from the Town Clerk, Palmerston North, stating that the local bodies cited in the drainage scheme were not prepared to pool an yexpenses incurred by local bodies legal representatives at the conference. Mr. Trueman stated that prior to the commission it had been agreed that the expenses be pooled and now, when the Council had received its legal costs, they were informed that there would be no pooling. It was hardly fair, he thought. It was decided to forward an emphatic protest to the Palmerston North Borough Council at the refusal to share legal costs of preparing and giving evidence at the River Board commission in face of the letter dated 21st September, 1926, intimating that such expense would bo pooled and also that no delegate be sent to the conference. GENERAL. An objection, signed by a number of Norbiton Road residents, protesting against the Council’s proposed drainage scheme was received. After discussion the matter was allowed to lapse. Mr Jacobsen also requested the Council to put a cutting through the hill giving iijcess from Union Street to Frances Street, and entered a protest at the existing state of the hill which was proving a menace to his property owing to drifting sand. It was agreed that Mi 1 . Jacobsen procure a price for having the work done, to be submitted to the Council for approval. The estimates for the coming year were read and adopted. It was decided to make necessary alterations to the electric lighting circuit at tho Town Hall at a cost of £27 16s Od.
