FOXTON SCHOOL WIN McKELVIE SHIELD.

HORNBLOW* SHIELD TO SANDON.

Favourable weather conditions on Saturday, good entries Tor all events and excellent tracks, both cycling and running, combined to make the sports fixture staged by the Sandon Sports Club a successful meeting. The attendance was excellent, and the varied prograpime contained items of interest to suit all tastes.

Additional interest was added to the programme by two annual primary schools’ competitions, one for the Hornblow Shield and the other for thoi McKclvie Shield. The Hornblow Shield passed to Sandon, who totalled 3(i points, Glen Oroua (321) and Awahuri (191) tilling the other places. Six schools competed. Foxton, with 48 points, carried off the McKclvie Shield. Manchester Street (Feilding) were second with 26 and Rongotea third with 23. Nine teams competed. A miniature cup presented by Mr. J. McKclvie for the 220 yards school championship event was contested for the first time and was won by J. Coley, of Foxton. The athletic events were all of a very high order, and some close finishes were witnessed, especially in the running. The presence of T. Oakley, of Masterton, ex-New Zealand cycling champion, lent additional interest to the cycling races, in which events he was successful in .winning the two-mile and the three-mile handicaps. There were splendid entries in all the athletic events, competitors coming from Palmerston North, Marton, Feilding Bulls and Wanganui.
