PALMERSTON OR MANAWATU? An interesting discussion took place in connection with the Palmerston North Chamber’s agitation to change the name of Palmerston North to Manawatu. Messrs Woods and Rangiheuea explained how, according to Maori tradition, the names “Manawatu” and “Hokowhitu” were given to the river and locality near Palmerston.
