MANAWATU RABBIT BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Manawatu Rabbit Board was held in the secretary’s office on Thursday afternoon. President: Trustees B. G. Gower (chairman), W. E. Barber, R. Boswell, F. Raikes and the secretary (Mr. R. Rangiheuea). Messrs Gloyn, Fleming, and McKclvie were granted leave of absence. Accounts amounting to £55 5s 5d were passed for payment. A remit was received from t lie Rabbit Board Association as follows: “That the Government he approached to give power to Rabbit Boards to include within its district any rabbit-infected areas, on the border of a rabbit board district, but not included therein.” It was pointed out there were many such lands to which rabbits retired when poisoning was in progress; and came hack later on. It was decided to support the remit. INSPECTOR’S REPORT.

The inspector (Mr D. R. Barron) reported as follows:- — As the majority of properties inspected, where pollard poisoning has been needed it has already been carried out, while the owners of properties not so far done have received notice to have poisoning put into effect immediately. The condition of the country as regards rabbits is very fair at present and a great majority of (be district may be regarded as only patchy. Now. that the use of granular cyanide has been so fully demonstrated I would advise the Board to purchase a quantity and sell same to farmers at half landed cost. Certain Rabbit Bo.ards in the country have adopted this principle in regard to phosphorised pollard, and if granular cyanide was distributed throughout the district in this manner, great benefit would ensue, especially on the better class of land.

. There would then be no excuse for a farmer in not carrying out fumigation work when it was required as the expense in doing se would be greatly reduced. The report was adopted.
