FORGERY AND A TROUBLED CONSCIENCE.

Auckland, March 10. McMillan” to withdrawal slips. Carrington said that the £7O which he took first was spent on drink andi motor rides with women and by purchasing drugs. He had no assistance from anyone. After his transfer to Greymouth he remained there for two days and then resigned. With the £SOO which he withdrew from Miss McMillan’s account on August 28 he went to Sydney by the Maheno which sailed from Wellington during September of 1926, going across as a passenger in the name of “Calahan.” He returned to Auckland in December of last year and went to stay at his uncle's farm at Mangerc. He remained there until February 13, when he came to Auckland and called at the detective office giving himself up to the police. The worry occasioned l .by what he had done caused him to take this step. Carrington added that lie destroyed the dummy passbook before he left Dunedin. He did not know Miss McMillan when he started to operate on her account. She had a credit of £619, hut when he finished all that, was left was £9 Is Bd. Accused pleaded; guilty to all charges- and was committed to the. Supreme Court for sentence.
