CAR’S SENSATIONAL FALL

IlaAvera, Afarch 8. A sensational accident occurred on the Tongahoe Valley Road, near Hawera, late on Monday afternoon, a car falling over a bank ninety feet deep into the Tongahoe River. The occupants, AD. John Wicks and his son Alfred, Avere badly injured. The mishap was due to the steering gear becoming locked on a turn in the road, Air. Wicks, sen., was thrown clear halfway down, but bis son fell the whole distance and narrowly escaped drowning. A passer-by brought the injured men into Ilawera. Mr. Wicks was removed to the hospital suffering from shock, the crushing of several ribs, and extensive bruising. Alfred was taken to his home at Normanby suffering from injuries to his back. The car was completely wrecked.
